Terms of service

These terms apply to the Tessera website, the waitlist and, once it's available, the Tessera app and the Tessera Pro subscription. By using any of them, you agree to these terms. Please also read our privacy policy.

1. The website and waitlist

• Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't create an account or any obligation to buy.
• Joining doesn't guarantee access to the beta or a particular launch date. We invite people in waves.
• You can leave the waitlist at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email we send you.
• Nothing can be bought on this website. Prices are shown for information only.

2. The Tessera app

• The Free plan works on one device, and your notes stay on that device. There's no sync, and you don't need an account. Keep your own backup with the export feature: if that device is lost or reset, we have no copy to restore.
• Sync between devices is part of Tessera Pro and needs an account. Keep your devices and sign-in secure; you're responsible for activity on your account.
• Your content belongs to you. You grant us only the rights needed to store and sync it for you in encrypted form. Because it's end-to-end encrypted, we can't see it.
• Keep your Recovery Kit safe. Only your devices and your Recovery Kit can unlock your notes. If you lose access to all of your devices and your Recovery Kit, we can't recover your notes for you. That's the trade-off that keeps them private.
• Beta versions may contain bugs or change without notice. Keep your own copy of anything important while using a beta.

3. Tessera Pro subscription

• Tessera is free to use. Tessera Pro costs €4.99 per month or€49.90 per year, including VAT. Prices in other currencies are set by Google Play or the App Store and may differ.
• The yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the yearly subscription starts and is charged automatically.
• Subscriptions are bought, billed and managed through Google Play or the App Store, under their terms. They renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
• To cancel, use your Google Play or App Store subscription settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. After cancelling, Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
• Refunds and your right of withdrawal are handled by Google Play or the App Store under their policies and applicable consumer law.
• If Pro ends, nothing is deleted from your devices. Sync pauses, every device keeps its full local copy, and you choose one device to keep using on the Free plan. We keep your encrypted cloud copy for 180 days so sync can resume if you subscribe again. After that, it's deleted, and we email you before it happens.
• If we change prices, the store will notify you in advance and you can cancel before the new price applies.

4. Fair use and limits

Plans include limits on things like devices, attachment storage and cloud AI requests. The current limits are shown in the app. Pro's cloud AI is offered under fair use: if usage is unusually heavy, requests may switch to a lighter AI model rather than stop. We may adjust limits to keep the service sustainable, and we won't reduce what you've already paid for in a current billing period.

5. AI features

• AI features such as summaries, answers, rewrites and suggested tasks can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important before relying on it. AI output isn't professional, legal, medical or financial advice.
• AI suggestions are only suggestions. Nothing is added to your notes or tasks unless you confirm it.
• How AI requests are processed, and how to keep them entirely on your device, is explained in our privacy policy.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Tessera to:

• break the law or infringe other people's rights,
• try to access other people's accounts or data, or get around security, limits or payment,
• disrupt or overload the service, for example with automated sign-ups or requests,
• reverse engineer the service to build a competing product, except where the law allows it.

We may suspend accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these rules.

7. Ending your use

You can stop using Tessera and delete your account at any time from the app. Deleting your account removes your encrypted data from our servers. Cancel any active subscription in Google Play or the App Store separately, because deleting your account doesn't cancel store billing.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep Tessera reliable, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we ever shut down the service, we'll give you reasonable notice and time to export your notes.

9. Liability

Tessera is provided with reasonable care. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losing access to notes that couldn't be decrypted because the devices and Recovery Kit were lost. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body or health. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Tessera evolves. We'll post the new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, tell users in the app or by email before they take effect.
